our design process...

to get from a preliminary idea to the finished website takes more than a few mouse clicks...

1. what is the website for?

What do you want users to do on your site? Do you want them to learn about a product? Do you want them to use your service? Do you merely want them to read your content, or enjoy the things you put onto the site? Understanding how you want users to use your site is the first step to designing it... and there are no hard and fast rules!

2. what do you want the website to say?

There is no point building a website if it has no worthwhile content. It should either say something interesting, do something interesting, or provide people with a useful service - otherwise nobody will visit the site! (NB: cute puppy pictures are officially useful.) So think: what is your site about and why will people visit it?  ...back...

3. preliminary layout designs...

Once we know what you want the site to say and how it should function, we start to produce graphics of how the finished site will look. We take any existing logos and graphics (or create fresh ones for you), and build up a graphic layout for you. This can take a bit of time as we bounce emails back and forth before agreeing on a final design...

4. styling, marking up and general witchcraft...

Once we have agreed designs, we can start converting these images into living, interactive webpages. Starting with your content, we use the markup languages xhtml or html5 to lay out your page. Then, using modern CSS2.0 and CSS3.0 styling, we create your look and feel and breathe life into the site. This is the 'magic' part of the web design, allowing your page to be viewed on computers around the world.  ...back...

5. bells and whistles...

When the markup is done, we can then start adding in the bells and whistles that make your site sparkle. Every word of your copy will be checked and edited for maximum impact. We'll add whatever animations, slideshows, links, multimedia, forms, search engine optimisation, social plug-ins and content management elements you want, and then test, test, test...

6. fly, you fools! fly!!!

Once everything's been tested and uploaded, all the content has been checked, and you're ready to sign off the site, we move to launch it live onto the 'net. We shunt all the files to the host servers, check that everything is ready to go, and then click the mouse button for the final time... a few hours later and you're the talk of the internet!  ...back...
